Thompson, Fleming headline
JACKSON (Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006) U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson and U.S. Senate candidate Erik Fleming will headline a Democratic Party reception and campaign rally set for Saturday at the 930 Blues Café in Jackson.
The 2006 Yellow Dog Democrat Club Reception & Campaign Rally, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., marks the last four days of the 2006 election season. Voters on Tuesday will decide congressional races, state court races and four state legislative races.
This is a great opportunity for us to lead our candidates to victory, said Wayne Dowdy, chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party. This is an important, historic election. And Democrats are on the verge of making major gains.
Thompson, a Bolton native and ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, is running to keep the 2nd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Thompson has held the seat since 1993.
Fleming, a Clinton resident, has served in the Mississippi House of Representatives since 1999. Fleming is challenging longtime Republican U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, who first won the Senate post in 1988.
Both Thompson and Fleming are expected to speak at the campaign rally.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free for Yellow Dog Democrat Club members, $15 each for precinct captains and $25 each for everyone else. For more information, call (601) 969-2913 or e-mail Wendi Hooks at email@example.com.
We have a great slate of candidates running for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House and the Mississippi Legislature, Dowdy said. This is just the beginning of what this party is capable of doing for the people in the state of Mississippi.
